Dear Family and Friends:
So I really don't have anything super interesting to report this week. We didn't work as much because of sickness, meetings, and weirdness with the other companionship in my house. One of the girls is really wishy-washy and has a sickness that could send her home but it's like she can't decide if she wants to. So she keeps threatening to go home, which puts her companion in a state of sobbing stress. And then she feels like she needs us around to calm her down. And then the next day she will be just fine and they go out to work and everything's normal. And then the next day it happens all over again. My companion and I are somewhat frustrated because it's taking away from our time having to stay home with them when we have other things we could be doing. Like, you know, saving souls or whatever.
So the title of this letter is not Tagalog. It's actually probably Latin, and it's the scientific name for Maggots. Yes, those lovely little white slug looking things that grow up to be flies. And this last week I became very familiar with them.
For some reason here in the Philippines, it doesn't take very long to accumulate maggots. Probably about 2 weeks. We keep our garbage can outside so that we don't invite anything into the house that we don't want around. But this week as I pulled the bag out of the can to take out the trash it was absolutely covered in maggots. It was totally disgusting and I had to clean out the garbage can and drown them all out. And these weren't just little maggots. They were huge.
I thought about this and it actually taught me an important lesson. I hadn't been exactly obedient this last week. I slept in a few days, for example. And I didn't think it was that big of a deal. But it lead to other things too, mostly stemming from laziness on my part. I realized that I hadn't been careful enough to be taking out my spiritual trash consistently. And that invited maggots.
It's so much more disgusting and time consuming to have to clean out those huge maggots than to just do it little by little so it's not such a gross mess. If I had not let my lazy self accumulate all of this spiritual garbage, I think we would have had a better time and more success in the work this week.
Don't let your testimonies sit around to rot. Work on them daily.
